Find your fit

One thing decides whether a trim fits your hood: the zipper. Parka hoods are made with two different zipper systems, and they do not work with each other. A trim with the wrong zipper will not attach, however well the fur matches. Checking takes two minutes and prevents the most common mistake we see.

1. Find the zipper on your hood

Unzip and remove the trim that is on your hood now. The zipper runs along the inside edge of the hood opening, from one side of the face opening to the other. That strip is what you are looking at.

2. Work out which type you have

Look closely at the teeth.

  • Coil zipper. The teeth form one continuous spiral. The surface looks smooth and rounded and you cannot easily pick out a single tooth. Run a fingernail along it — it feels ribbed rather than blocky.
  • Plastic (moulded) zipper. Each tooth is a separate block, wider and chunkier, with a visible gap between one tooth and the next. It looks and feels like a row of small plastic teeth.

Photograph the zipper from about 10 cm away in daylight and the difference is obvious in the picture.

3. Measure the length

With the zipper closed, measure along the zipper tape from one metal stop to the other. Use a tailor’s tape rather than a ruler, so it follows the curve, and write the number down in centimetres.

Our trims are made with a 49.5 cm zip.

4. If you are not sure, send us a photo

This is the step most people skip, and it is the one that saves the order. Email arfur011@gmail.com with:

  • one close-up photo of the hood zipper
  • one photo of the whole hood
  • the measurement from step 3
  • your jacket model, if you know it

We answer within one working day and tell you which pieces fit. There is no charge and no obligation to buy.
